Pacific Rim 2 has a new release date.
After putting the sequel to the Guillermo del Toro sci-fi action movie on hold, Legendary and Universal have put the sequel back on the calendar, penciling a February 23, 2018 release date.
Steven S. DeKnight, the showrunner behind Spartacus and Daredevil season one, is behind the directors chair as del Toro moves on a one of the producers.


Star Wars actor John Boyega is the first actor to board the movie; he will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the first movie. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Mary Parent are producing with del Toro. Boyega is exec producing with his partner Femi Oguns.

The company was then bought by Chinese conglomerate Wanda earlier this year; Rim did very well in China and Wanda was keen on having another movie made.
