Drake has written an open letter on his Instagram in response to the shooting of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man who was killed in an incident with Baton Rouge police officers on Tuesday. Video of the incident began circulating online, and it has sparked a public outcry from those in and outside of the music industry. In the letter, Drake sends his condolences to the Sterling family and calls for “open honest dialogue.” “It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago,” he wrote. “No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.” Read his full statement below. Rihanna, Kanye West, Katy Perry, and Justin Timberlake are among the other artists who have responded to the tragedy.
