Jake Owen on Cathartic Powers of New Album: The Ram Report »Like some of Owen’s previous releases, “Good Company” is an ode to lazy, obligation-free days spent with friends but this one adds a little sales pitch. As the band finds a groove, Owen details a situation of sunny day staples: beer in a cooler, bean bag toss, musicians playing on the porch — the only thing missing, he notes, is a pretty girl at his side. It moves along at an unhurried pace, sun-kissed horns adding a little spice to the chorus but never overwhelming the supremely easygoing mood.
American Love, which comes out July 29th, will feature more where that came from and — according to Owen — serve as a kind of balm for anyone who’s feeling down and out.
“Music is healing, whether it’s sad songs or happy songs — just depending on where you are in life and what you need to hear at that point,” Owen tells Rolling Stone Country. “This album has a lot of different aspects of my life thread throughout it. I think people will kinda get a good idea of where I am in life, where I’m going and where I’ve been.”
