Zara Larsson has a hit on her hands with her latest single, “Ruin My Life.” The Swedish pop star returned to the scene with her infectious reverse breakup anthem last week. “You set fire to my world, couldn’t handle the heat,” she sings about a former partner. “Now I’m sleeping alone and I’m starting to freak.” She opened up about the song’s inspiration in a press release. “Ruin My Life is a song about that unhealthy relationship that everyone has at one point in their life,” she explained. “It’s toxic, but it’s passionate.” And it is undeniably relatable. Since its release the track has amassed more than 5 million streams on Spotify, and it isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Today (October 23), the siren gives it another push with the release of an official video.
In it, the 20-year-old struggles to cope with the fallout from a breakup. Living alone in a picturesque home, Zara documents her loneliness while tooling around. Setting the dinner table for two, the exquisitely dressed hitmaker sits across from a camera and soaks up her heartbreak. Delivering endlessly chic looks in every scene, her sorrow and longing are equally evident. In a separate scene her ex checks his phone and appears to see the footage. As the “Ain’t My Fault” superstar emotes with the best of them, he hops in his car. The ending is unclear, but I’d like to think there is some sort of happily ever after for the pair. Either way, the impeccable video is a glorious site to take in. Give it a view up top!
