Now that he’s the UFC’s lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez thinks it’s about time he got a shot against an easier opponent. It’s no wonder he feels that way, either, since it’s taken three consecutive victories against some of the best fighters in his division to gain control of the belt — first Gilbert Melendez at UFC 188, then Anthony Pettis in January of this year and finally Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night on Thursday in knockout fashion.

Conor McGregor Vows Revenge Against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 »However, Alvarez’s idea of easy probably isn’t what you’d expect. After taking care of business against dos Anjos, Alvarez begged UFC president Dana White for a “gimme fight” against Conor McGregor and proceeded to throw shade at the featherweight champion for being someone who talks the talk but doesn’t necessarily walk the walk.
“There’s a lot of guys in the UFC who are good at one thing and they get matched up stylistically well and they make their way to the top without ever going against the best guys — the true best guys like Rafael dos Anjos and the best guys in the division,” Alvarez said. “They sneak their way around them. They live off perception, not what really is.
Remember: McGregor was scheduled to fight dos Anjos at UFC 196 for an opportunity to become the UFC’s first duel-weight champion, but the Brazilian pulled himself from the card after breaking his foot in training. That paved the way for Nate Diaz to fight McGregor, and we all know how that ended.
McGregor’s rematch with Diaz is the main event of UFC 202 in Las Vegas on August 20th.
