The Spanish-language media giant wants to further align its news and entertainment content strategy across platforms to “strategically drive growth and engagement.”
Spanish-language media giant Univision Communications has promoted Isaac Lee to the newly created position of chief news, entertainment & digital officer.
He was most recently chief news and digital officer and is now adding oversight over the company’s entertainment operations. He will continue to report to Randy Falco, president and CEO of Univision.
Lee will be responsible for news, entertainment, and digital content across platforms, as well as the company’s music efforts. “This multi-platform strategy allows the company to strengthen and expand its content offerings and build on the 81 million average monthly unduplicated media consumers Univision reaches,” the company said. It operates two broadcast networks, 11 cable networks, 126 local TV and radio stations and such digital brands as Fusion, The Root and The Onion.
Lee is also leading the company’s search for a president of entertainment.

“Univision continues to evolve and drive innovation and I am confident that in this new role Isaac will further align our content and platform teams to strategically drive growth and engagement,” said Falco. “The rapid pace of change in the industry requires us at Univision to continually disrupt the media landscape and I am confident that our leadership team will continue to focus on our mission, on serving our diverse audiences and on leading in the industry.”
Lee will also continue to work closely with Univision’s Mexican content partner Televisa and develop the newly launched Storyhouse, Univision’s development and production arm, which recently announced the co-production of Netflix series El Chapo.
“We have successfully transformed Univision into a multimedia industry leader and I look forward to working with our leadership team to further elevate our efforts and compete – and win – across platforms,” said Lee. “No one is better positioned than Univision to super-serve a diverse, rising America”.
Lee joined UCI in December 2010 as president of news. In the role, he launched investigative and documentary units and spearheaded the digital expansion of Univision News. In 2013, he added the role as CEO of the Fusion Network, aimed at Hispanic millennials who speak English.
In November, he was elevated to his most recent job, in which he has spearheaded the company’s digital expansion and the creation of the Fusion Media Group.
Juan Carlos Rodriguez continues to oversee sports for Univision, and programming scheduling remains under the oversight of Jessica Rodriguez. Both report to Falco.
