Following his death in April, Prince’s iconic backing band the Revolution announced their reunion and intention to play some shows. They have now revealed the dates for those shows. They will play at Minneapolis’ First Avenue on September 2 and 3. The lineup features Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, BrownMark, Dr. Fink, and Bobby Z., as well as “special guests” Dez Dickerson and André Cymone.
In a press release, the Revoltion said, “Only by playing for you, the fans, can we be Prince’s Revolution. He gives Us 2 oneanother now, as we all start to heal and fill forever emptiness with sound. 2gether, we are The Revolution.”
The Revolution were credited on three of Prince’s albums: 1985’s Around the World in a Day, 1986’s Parade, and most memorably, 1984’s Purple Rain. (The accompanying film returned to theaters for a short run following Prince’s passing.) Members of the band also played on 1982’s 1999.
