Bad news for fans of The Spice Girls, as it looks like the ‘Wannabe’ pop sensations won’t be returning for a reunion tour in 2017 after all.
Earlier this year, it was suggested that they’d be making a comeback – for a one-off massive gig at Wembley Stadium at least, if not a full tour.
There have been rumours of the band being in talks for a 20th anniversary tour throughout the last year, before Mel B told US chat show Live With Kelly that the shows would be happening, but pushed back until 2017.
However, it was said that Victoria Beckham and Mel C were not willing to be part of the tour. Now, The Mirror reports that Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton are not willing to tour without them – despite other claims that they’d be holding auditions to replace them.
The group were put together by Heart Management back in 1994 to compete with the boy bands – such as Take That and East 17 – who dominated the pop scene in the ’90s. They released their first single, ‘Wannabe’, two years later on 8 July in 1996, and it reached No.1 in 37 countries. After years of success, they went on indefinite hiatus in 2000. They’ve had a couple of reunions since then; first in 2007, and then in 2012 for the London Olympics closing ceremony.
