Ricky Gervais revisits his ‘Office’ character David Brent in the new video for “Lady Gypsy,” off Brent’s debut LP ‘Life on the Road.’

Ricky Gervais revisits his wannabe pop star/bungling office manager David Brent in both an upcoming film (David Brent: Life on the Road) and Brent’s accompanying debut album, a 15-track collection also titled Life on the Road. Gervais’ Brent has shared the first video from that LP, the acoustic rambler “Lady Gypsy.”

Ricky Gervais on ‘Special Correspondents,’ ‘The Office’ »Brent opens the video strumming his guitar while sitting on a not-so-subtle tree branch. From there, he sings about encountering a beautiful lady gypsy bathing in the woods.
However, by the second verse, the story becomes increasingly more bizarre, with Brent’s character wondering aloud whether the gypsy is a hooker and the two quarreling over the price of heather flowers. “I said, ‘But to be clear then, the sex is free, yes?’ / She said, ‘Yes the sex is free but the heather is a pound,'” Brent sings.
In addition to “Lady Gypsy,” the Life on the Road LP also includes “Freelove Freeway,” which Gervais/Brent first introduced on the U.K. version of The Office, as well as many of the songs Gervais debuted in his YouTube series of faux guitar instructional videos in 2013, like “Ain’t No Trouble,” “Lonely Cowboy,” “Slough” and “Thank Fuck It’s Friday.”
David Brent: Life on the Road arrives in U.K. theatres on August 19th, the same day Brent’s album drops. Additionally, Brent and his band Foregone Conclusion have scheduled a pair of gigs at London’s Apollo for September 8th and 9th.
