See Trace Adkins Walk the Line in ‘Jesus and Jones’ Video »Adkins’ first release since the somber early 2016 offering “Jesus & Jones,” “Lit” takes the complete opposite tack with a sneering, funky guitar riff and boot-stomping rhythm spiked with horns. Using images of volatility and power (“Grandpa fishin’ with dynamite,” “short fuse Black Cat everybody run”), Adkins sings about a woman’s kiss having a similarly explosive effect. The song revs up to a full-throated gospel-meets-Southern rock chorus that recalls the hillbilly swagger of Adkins’ 2003 hit “Rough & Ready.”
Adkins was joined the Broken Bow Records family in 2015 with the launch of new imprint Wheelhouse Records — also the home to Granger Smith and Kristian Bush — and has spent some of his time between albums working as an actor. Tonight, he’ll be in Ft. Worth, Texas for a show at Billy Bob’s, followed by a July 2nd performance at Riverdome in Bossier City, Louisiana.
