The 1975 have released the video for “Somebody Else,” one of their singles from I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It. Tim Mattia directed the introspective clip that features a vignette before the primary video plays out.

Watch the 1975 Explore Tragic Clown Romance in New Video »The video opens with singer Matt Healy entering a room that feels like an old TV show set, where a person who never moves is sitting on a couch. Shot in black-and-white with the only sound being foreboding background music and an inappropriate laugh track, Healy washes off clown makeup and studies himself in the mirror before attempting to speak to the person. The bleak setting, which is a continuation of the theme from their “A Change of Heart” video, foreshadows the main video.
Shot in color, the main video kicks off with Healy in similarly dire straights. As the synth-tipped song plays, Healy progresses through a pretty terrible day, where heartbreak and tears rule. “I don’t want your body/ But I hate to think about you with somebody else,” he sings. “Our love has gone cold/ You’re intertwining your soul with somebody else.”
In the clip, he spends time trying to get over someone in solitude on deserted streets or in the back of a car, but when he isn’t alone, things only get worse. He’s beaten up after leaving a bar, he hooks up with a stripper, and generally in each scenario he encounters there are elements of self-obsession as well as feelings of isolation. It’s a very different vibe than their defiantly upbeat video for “The Sound.”
The UK band is currently on a world tour that takes the group through Europe, Australia and Asia. They also have a handful of dates stateside, including a July 28th appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
